? Full Description
This ecoâadventure begins with a punctual meeting point at the visitor centre near ElâŻCajuil, on the northwestern shore of Laguna deâŻOviedo. From there youâll board a small motorised boat, guided by trained local captains and nature guides affiliated with the Association of Guides of Laguna deâŻOviedo (AGUINAOVI).
As you navigate the elongated 28âŻkm² saltâwater lagoon, youâll pass lush mangroves (including red, black and white species), dunes and palm groves. The guides will point out iconic wildlife: the American flamingo visiting annually, over 150 different bird species recorded in the area, and even the endemic Oviedo pupfish.
The tour will stop at small islets where iguanas bask and birds nest, and may include a chance to step ashore for a short nature walk or mud bath on the lagoonâs edge. The contrast between the shallow, sparkling waters of the lagoon and the nearby Caribbean Sea straits makes for beautiful photo opportunities.
Throughout the outing youâll benefit from the knowledge of local guides trained in natureâtourism.
